Psalm 92:1-15 & Psalm 93:1-5
Q.1. With what attitude did the Psalmist approach the Lord? How did he describe the enemies of God? – (Ps.92:1-9)
The Psalmist approached God with an attitude of thanksgiving and praise. To praise God for Who He is, and to thank God for what He has done, is the way to enter into God’s presence (Ps.92:1-2). The Psalm was written for corporate worship, so included references to the instruments of the worship of the day (Ps.92:3). Nevertheless, the song was personal, as the Psalmist confessed – For You O Lord have made me glad by what You have done. I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands (Ps.92:4). To see God in His works, requires time and meditation, because – … Your thoughts are very deep (Ps.92:5). The Psalmist described godless people as ‘senseless, stupid, and wicked’ (Ps.92:6-7). They are His enemies and will perish (Ps.92:9). By contrast – You O Lord, are on high forever (Ps.92:8).
Q.2. What qualities does the person whom God choses to bless, possess? – (Ps.92:10-15)
God is for the righteous i.e. those who yearn to be right in the sight of God. The Psalmist likened the righteous to an established tree. They are planted and immovable, and – The righteous man will flourish like a palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord … they will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green (Ps.92:13-14). A righteous person acknowledges that – the Lord is righteous … and that there is no unrighteousness in Him (Ps.92:15).
Q.3. For what about God, did the Psalmist exalt Him? – (Ps.93:1-5)
The Psalmist had a lofty view of God. He started the Psalm by declaring that – The Lord reigns. He is clothed with majesty … Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting (Ps.93:1-2). God is clothed in majesty and holiness. He clothes Himself in strength and is out of the reach of all the floods and breakers of the earth (Ps.93:3-4). All that has been reported about God is true – Your testimonies are fully confirmed. Holiness befits Your house, O Lord forevermore (Ps.93:5). When we view God as great, that makes all our troubles small.
