A RESOLVE TO LET NO SIN RULE OVER ME.

Psalm 119:129-136

Q.1. Why did the Psalmist think so highly of God’s Word? What was the substance of His prayer to God? (Ps.119:129-133)

The Psalmist loved the Word of God because it made him wise beyond his years – The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple (Ps.119:130). It also protected him from sin and had the power to break patterns of sin in his life – Establish my footsteps in Your word, and do not let any iniquity have dominion over me (Ps.119:133).

Q.2. How did the Palmist protect himself from the ungodly? What affect did lawbreakers have on him? (Ps.119:134-136)

We all live in a world which has pressures on every side that entice us to compromise. The Psalmist prayed – Redeem me from the oppression of man, that I may keep Your precepts (Ps.119:134). Even as believers, we can lust and sin. The more we are exposed to God’s Word, the more our convictions and passions change. Therefore, the Psalmist was deeply saddened by the sins he saw – My eyes shed streams of water, because they do not keep Your Law (Ps.119:136). Through God’s Word, the Psalmist’s thoughts aligned increasingly more with God’s thoughts.
