Hosea 10:1-15
Q.1. How had Israel rewarded God for His generosity? What did Hosea foreshadow for his people? – (Hos.10:1-10)
Israel had misused God’s blessing, by erecting false altars to their phony gods (see Hos.10:1-2). They had denied the kingship of their God. Their promises and covenant keeping were hollow words which were not backed by faithfulness. Therefore, they would be chastened by foreign nations and their gods (see Hos.10:3-10).
Q.2. For what response did the Lord long from His people? Why would Israel perish? – (Hos.10:11-15)
Israel would surely reap the wickedness and injustice that they had sown. However, God still made a desperate plea – Sow with a view to righteousness, reap in accordance with kindness; Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord until He comes to rain righteousness on you (Hos.10:12). Even at this late hour, the Lord still longed to come and rain His righteousness upon them. Alas, they were bent on reaping what they had sown – 15 This will be done to you at Bethel because of your great wickedness. At dawn the king of Israel will be completely cut off (see Hos.10:15).
