Proverbs 31:10-22
Q.1. How valuable is a virtuous wife? Why does a husband value such a wife? How long does she benefit him and her family? – (Prov.31:10-12)
A virtuous woman who is capable and intelligent is far more precious than jewels, and her value more than precious stones (Prov.31:10). The man knows that – he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord (Prov.18:22). The relationship is secure, because – the heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain (Prov.31:11). A woman of virtue – does him good and not evil all the days of her life (Prov.31:12). It is worth noting that the writer did not describe the woman’s outward beauty or stature. He knew that this growing trust came from the inward qualities of his wife.
Q.2. What is the characteristic of a worthy wife? How broad is her influence? Does she look after herself? Does she care about others? – (Prov.31:13-22)
Again, the writer didn’t describe the woman’s outward features, or her way with words. Rather he described her lifestyle and activities, by which she blessed and benefitted the family. She works tirelessly during the day from sun-up to sundown and manages the affairs of the household diligently. She could turn her hand to wise investments in business. She is not self-absorbed, or even preoccupied with her own family alone, but – She extends her hand to the poor, and she stretches out her hands to the needy (Prov.31:20). The scope of her influence is broad throughout the community.
