Psalm 62:1-12
Q.1. Was David a mighty warrior? In Whom did David place his trust and confidence? What were his circumstances in this Psalm? How did he approach his adversaries? What lesson had he learnt? – (Ps.62:1-12)
David was undoubtedly a mighty warrior. It is not uncommon for people with wealth to depend on their wealth, or for those with fame to depend on their reputation, or for people with intelligence to depend on their academic prowess. However, David attributed his success to God, and urged his people to trust in the Lord – 5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. 8 Trust in Him always, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us (Ps.62:5-8 c.f. Ps.62:1-2). David explained that with God, all the schemes and falsehood of his enemies would totter and fall (Ps.62:3-4). He was aware that they could wait for him to fall but considered that the schemes of the godless were built on vanity and would soon fade away (Ps.62:9-10). He warned his people not to be taken in by the pursuits of the wicked, and advised that – if riches increase, do not set your heart upon them (Ps.62:10). He underscored the truth – Once God has spoken; Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God (Ps.62:11). Therefore, as the sovereign God – lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord (Ps.62:12). Furthermore – You recompense a man according to his work (Ps.62:11). This was the reason for David’s effectiveness as a king and warrior.
