APPLYING FAITHFULNESS TO JUSTICE, WITNESSING, AND WORK.

Proverbs 24:23-34

Q.1. How did Solomon illustrate the need for being impartial in judgment? How should the wicked be treated? – (Prov.24:23-29)

For those in authority to call a wicked person righteous, is a sin against God. A judge acting in such a way should be cursed by people and nations. By contrast, those who rebuke wickedness will receive a blessing. It is a terrible thing to harm our neighbour or bring false accusation against him. We need to know our place in the ‘chain of command’ under God and be wary of taking His place in being judge and jury (Jms.4:11-12). Jesus spoke about laying a proper foundation before building a house (Prov.24:27 c.f. Lk.6:46-49).

Q.2. What is the place of sleep? What can we learn from sluggards who fail to work diligently? – (Prov.24:30-34)

Solomon learned and received instruction for the sluggard – “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,” (Prov.24:33). There is a place for sleep, in order to be refreshed. However, it is a travesty for people to be lazy, and to allow their property and business to be unproductive – Then your poverty will come as a robber and your want like an armed man (Prov.24:34).
