Psalm 58:1-11
Q.1. What will happen to the wicked? How did David describe them? What did David want God to do to them? Why did he make such a request? – (Ps.58:1-11)
David described the characteristics of the workers of iniquity. Interestingly, David understood that this was a condition of the heart from birth – 3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; These who speak lies go astray from birth (Ps.58:11 c.f. Ps.51:5). At some stage, we must acknowledge that our root problem stems from our connection to Adam, then repent and turn in faith to the Saviour. Otherwise, nothing will stop the development of full-blown rebellion that poisons like (the) serpent (Ps.58:4-5). David had felt the fury of the ungodly attitudes and actions of the wicked. He called for God to punish them (as He surely will). We may struggle with the reality of the retribution of the wicked. However, as the world reaches the climax of the ages, evil will also reach a crescendo. Many saints will be massacred and cry out – How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth? (Rev.6:10 c.f. Mt.24:10-13). We will join all the saints, past, present, and future, and proclaim – … “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth! (Ps.58:11 c.f. Ps.58:6-9). Justice is being misused, as revealed in the media each day. The saints will rejoice when they see God making a distinction between the righteous and ungodly (Ps.58:10-11 c.f. Mal.3:16-18).
