DAVID CRIES IN DESPAIR TO GOD WHEN HE FACES TROUBLE.

Psalm 142:1-7

Q.1. What thought pattern led David to be overwhelmed? Was there any companion who really understood his plight? – (Ps.142:1-4)

The reason why David was overwhelmed was that his mind was locked on all his circumstances. He was fearful of all the traps his enemies had secretly laid for him. He tried to share his burdens but could find none who understood his plight – Look to the right and see; For there is no one who regards me; There is no escape for me; No one cares for my soul (Ps.142:4). By contrast, he could bring his complaints and troubles before the Lord, because – When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path … (Ps.142:3).

Q.2. How did David’s cry to God bring him relief in the midst of his depression? What was his hope in spite of his circumstances? – (Ps.142:5-7)

David could share his feelings truthfully and completely with God. He could admit his weaknesses – “Give heed to my cry, for I am brought very low; Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me (Ps.142:6). David would have no hope if it was not for God, Who was his refuge and guarantor, as long as he was in the land of the living. His situation was hopeless, yet he found comfort in the hope that God would – “Bring my soul out of prison, so that I may give thanks to Your name; The righteous will surround me, for You will deal bountifully with me.” (Ps.142:7). In the midst of overwhelming odds, with God we are the majority.
