DAVID PRAISES GOD FOR DELIVERANCE AND HIS MANY BLESSINGS.

Psalm 21:1-13

Q.1. Why was David rejoicing in the Lord? What prompted the writing of this song of praise? How much was God part of David’s life? Is it easy to be grateful for God’s blessing? – (Ps.21:1-6)

David had come through a dark time, when he had cried out to God for deliverance – He asked life of You, You gave it to him; Length of days forever and ever (Ps.21:4). In His good time – You have given him his heart’s desire, and You have not withheld the request of his lips (Ps.21:2). Here David rejoiced in the Lord. He composed this song of praise and thanks, for all God’s bounty to him (Ps.21:1-4). God had protected him again – 5 His glory is great through Your salvation. Splendour and majesty You place upon him. 6 For You make him most blessed forever; You make him joyful with gladness in Your presence (Ps.21:5-6). David’s recognition of his special place in God’s heart was forged from real life experiences. He had needed to wait many decades to ascend to the throne. His life had been constantly under threat. He had seen God’s repeated intervention to save him. On the surface, since God had showered His blessings upon him, it may have seemed natural for David to praise Him. However, the truth is that it is easy to take God’s goodness for granted, and to forget to attribute our successes to Him

Q.2. What confidence did David’s relationship and reliance on God inspire? Why did he expect God to bring down his enemies? How much did God mean to David? – (Ps.21:7-13)

David was in no doubt that His blessings came from God. This evidence of His presence gave David much confidence because he truly believed that God was guiding his life. Nowhere was this truer than in his battles against his enemies. Because David was concerned for God’s glory and committed to God’s purposes, his enemies were God’s enemies. Not only could God not be shaken, but He would also deal out retribution to David’s enemies (Ps.21:7-9). Their plans were evil, but David was convinced that they and their families would not prosper – Though they intended evil against You and devised a plot, they will not succeed (Ps.21:11). The Lord meant everything to David. His praise indicated how highly he viewed his God – Be exalted, O Lord, in Your strength; We will sing and praise Your power (Ps.21:13).
