EZEKIEL’S LAMENT RAISED OVER PHARAOH AND EGYPT.

Ezekiel 32:1-32

Q.1. What was to happen to Pharaoh? How was God’s judgment to be carried out? –(Ezk.32:1-15)

The judgments on Egypt and Pharaoh were revealed to Ezekiel in succeeding years (see Ezk.32:1 c.f. Ezk.29:1; 31:1). Since Pharaoh had prided himself over the other nations and had exalted himself above God, God would bring an end to his pride (see Ezk.32:2). God would devastate Egypt at the hands of Babylon, whom He had raised up for that purpose. Thus, all would recognize that God is sovereign Lord (see Ezk.32:3-15).

Q.2. With whom was Egypt’s destruction compared? What does this history of judgment say about God? – (Ezk.32:16-32)

A lament would be chanted over Egypt (see Ezk.32:16-21). They had been in love with their elevation and blessing but had refused to give glory to God. God would bring on their demise, just as with all the other great empires and nations before them – Assyria, Elam, Meshech, Tubal, Edom and Sidon. Just as their terror had ceased, so Egypt would be brought low to Sheol (see Ezk.32:22-32). God raises up and uses kingdoms for His purposes, and He also brings them to nought.
