Ezekiel 32:1-32
Q.1. What was to happen to Pharaoh? How was God’s judgment to be carried out? –(Ezk.32:1-15)
The judgments on Egypt and Pharaoh were revealed to Ezekiel in succeeding years (Ezk.32:1 c.f. Ezk.29:1; 31:1). Since Pharaoh had prided himself over the other nations and had exalted himself above God, God would bring an end to his pride (Ezk.32:2). God would devastate Egypt at the hands of Babylon, whom He had raised up for that purpose. Thus all would recognize that God is sovereign Lord (Ezk.32:3-15).
Q.2. With whom was Egypt’s destruction compared? What does this history of judgment say about God? – (Ezk.32:16-32)
A lament would be chanted over Egypt (Ezk.32:16-21). They had been in love with their elevation and blessing but had refused to give glory to God. God would bring on their demise, just as with all the other great empires and nations before them – Assyria, Elam, Meshech, Tubal, Edom and Sidon. Just as their terror had ceased, so Egypt would be brought low to Sheol (Ezk.32:22-32). God raises up and uses kingdoms for His purposes, and He also brings them to nought.
