GOD AS CREATOR IS GREATER THAN THE MIGHTY LEVIATHAN.

Job 41:1-34

Q.1. How awesome and unique was Leviathan? How did the description show that it was an extinct creature? Was man able to control this beast? – (Job 41:1-34)

Leviathan is more than a crocodile as some have suggested. Back in Job’s day, the Leviathan was unconquerable and uncontrollable. It was like a crocodile but had some unique features that marked it out as quite different – 18 His sneezes flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. 19 Out of his mouth go burning torches, Sparks of fire leap forth. 20 Out of his nostrils smoke goes forth as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. 21 His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes forth from his mouth (Job 41:18-21). God’s description revealed – 33 Nothing on earth is like him, one made without fear. 34 He looks on everything that is high; He is king over all the sons of pride (Job 41:33-34).

Q.2. Why did God remind Job about Leviathan? How much greater is God than Leviathan?  What point was God making with Job? – (Job 41:10-11)

God made Leviathan high and lofty … and without fear. How much greater is the Creator than the ones He has made. Consequently, God reminded Job that He is incomparable – Who then is he that can stand before Me? (Job 41:10). No one has either given the ideas or provided the wherewithal for God to produce these awesome things that He has made. He is the Owner and Heir of absolutely everything in Heaven and earth – Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine (Job 41:11 c.f. Heb.1:2-3). Job was hardly in a position to question anything that God did. (c.f. Rom.9:19-20; 11:33-36).
