GOD NEVER FORSAKES THOSE THAT TRUST IN HIM.

Psalm 37:23-40

Q.1. What promises can we claim from the Lord? How far do His blessings extend? Why does God give His bounty to the godly? How should we respond to these blessings? – (Ps.37:23-29)

David had been describing the way of the righteous (c.f. Ps.37:16-22). He stated that – 23 The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way. 24 When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand (Ps.37:23-24). David said this based on his observation – I have been young and now I am old. Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread (Ps.37:25). God’s blessing passes from generation to generation (Ps.145:4). However, God does not give in order to make us self-dependent and materialistic, but rather to make us a blessing with our generosity (Ps.37:26). David promised that the Lord – does not forsake His godly ones (Ps.37:28). The godly – depart from evil and do good (Ps.37:27). The righteous will inherit the land … they are preserved forever (Ps.37:29 & 28).

Q.2. Where do the righteous gain wisdom? What assurance does God provide? What had David observed about the wicked and the upright? What difference does trusting God make? – (Ps.37:30-40)

The righteous gain and speak wisdom, because – the law of his God is in his heart (Ps.37:30-31). The wicked will try to bring the godly down, but – the Lord will not leave him in his hand or let him be condemned when he is judged. Wait for the Lord and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you will see it (Ps.37:33-34). David spoke from his own observations of both the wicked and the godly. Often the wicked flourish, … but only for a season (Ps.37:35-36 & 38). This in no way compares with the experience of the godly. In this life – 39 the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble. 40 The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him (Ps.37:39-40). There is no end to God’s blessing. – Mark the blameless man and behold the upright; For the man of peace will pass on his inheritance to a future generation (Ps.37:37).
