Hosea 9:1-17
Q.1. Why would it become impossible for Israel to celebrate the feasts of the Lord? – (Hos.9:1-6)
Most of Israel’s feasts were related to an increase in their flocks, their crops and produce. However, Israel’s sin and treachery against God would mean that these harvests would be cut off. God asked – What will you do on the day of the appointed festival And on the day of the feast of the Lord? (Hos.9:5). Their thanksgiving would be turned into mourning.
Q.2. What would happen to Israel’s prophets? Why would Israel become a nation of wanderers? – (Hos.9:7-17)
Previously – Ephraim was a watchman with my God, a prophet … (Hos.9:8). Now – … Let Israel know this! The prophet is a fool, the inspired man is demented, because of the grossness of your iniquity, and because your hostility is so great (Hos.9:7). In spite of God’s grace to the infant nation, Israel had turned to other gods. This left God with no alternative – My God will cast them away because they have not listened to Him; and they will be wanderers among the nations (Hos.9:17).
