GUIDELINES FOR RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THE CHURCH.

Titus 2:1-8

Q.1. Why should the ministry address the lifestyle of the various age groups that make up the church? – (Tit.2:1-5)

The doctrine of the church is founded on Christ’s teaching as recorded in the Bible by the apostles and prophets (Eph.2:20). The Pastor-Teacher role in each church is crucial (Eph.4:11). However, their role according to Jesus is to equip others to make disciples who will – teach them to observe all that I commanded you (Mt.28:19 c.f. Eph.4:12-13; 2 Tim.2:2; Tit.2:1). Pastor Titus was to apply the truth to older men and older women who would model Christlike character to the young men and young women – so that the Word of God will not be dishonoured (Tit.2:5 c.f.Tit.2:2-6). Titus was to address all these groups so that they may grow in Christlikeness. The older women had the key role of encouraging the young women – to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their own husbands (Tit.2:4-5).

Q.2. What kind of model was Titus and the other young men of the fellowship to become? Why? – (Tit.2:6-8)

Titus and the other young men were exhorted to – 6 … be sensible; 7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, 8 sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us (Tit.2:6-8). People will follow the leader and will be more likely to live at the level he models.
