HOW GOD TRAINS HIS SERVANTS TO VALUE HIS WORD.

Psalm 119:65-72

Q.1. What did the Psalmist learn from his afflictions? – (Ps.119:65, 67-68, & 71)

The Psalmist recorded the progression in his understanding of why God allows trials – Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I keep Your word (Ps.119:67). He came to see that – It was good for me that I was afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes (Ps.119:71). He accepted that God had dealt with him according to the principles of His Word (Ps.119:65) It strengthened his conviction that – You are good and do good (Ps.119:68).

Q.2. What was the Psalmist’s response to evil influences? – (Ps.119:66, 69, 70 & 72)

The Psalmist was attacked by arrogant people who seemed to prosper in spite of their lies (Ps.119:69-70). This only served to increase his vigilance, and his reliance upon God and the guiding principles of His word – Teach me good discernment and knowledge, for I believe in Your commandments (Ps.119:66). It helped him to value God’s law, as he recognized that – The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces (Ps.119:72).
