Proverbs 16:1-9
Q.1. Why is it crucial to factor in God’s sovereign control over your plans? – (Prov.16:1-6)
Before time began, it was God Who created everything, in order to fulfil His plans – The Lord has made everything for His own purpose (Prov.16:4). He also sustains and upholds all things by the Word of His Power (c.f. Heb.1:3). His sovereign power determines blessing for the righteous, and judgement for the wicked – … the answer of the tongue is from the Lord (Prov.16:1 c.f. Prov.16:4). Man may plan whatever he pleases, but it is God Who will make it stand or come to nothing. Therefore – Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established (Prov.16:3). We should count on God, because – by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from trouble (Prov.16:6). Those who trust in Him are assured that – by lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for (Prov.16:6).
Q.2. What difference will it make to maintain a fear of God in our daily living? – (Prov.16:6-9)
Fearing God above all others will keep us from evil. (Prov.16:6). A fear of God will also help to improve our relationships with others, even our enemies. Our refusal to submit to the influence of our enemies, will inevitably be respected by them – When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Prov.16:7). When we fear God, we will prefer – a little with righteousness than great income with injustice (Prov.16:8). We will know that – the mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps (Prov.16:9).
