Psalm 101:1-8
Q.1. How did David ensure that his home was a safe haven? How may this apply to the use of modern technology? – (Ps.101:1-5)
David’s praise was directed to the Lord. The theme of this Psalm was God’s lovingkindness and justice (Ps.101:1). David’s worship began in his home and personal life (Ps.101:2-8). In his choices and relationships, David desired to – heed the blameless way (Ps.101:2). This started at home, where he determined to – walk within his house in the integrity of my heart … therefore – I will set no worthless thing before my eyes … (Ps.101:2-3). So much ungodly influence comes from technology and devices dominated by – the prince of the power of the air(waves) c.f. Eph.2:2). David avoided backsliders and those who lived in evil ways (Ps.101:3-4). He would silence slanderers, sharers of secrets, and the prideful and arrogant talkers (Ps.101:5). David recognized the evil influence of such so-called friends and dismissed them from his home.
Q.2. What kind of heroes did David make his friends? How did he protect himself from bad influences? – (Ps.101:6-8)
What do the pictures on the walls of our rooms, and in our hearts, say about our chosen heroes? David recognized the benefit of setting a standard of excellence for his family. He was very particular about those whom he allowed to be his friends – My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; He who walks in a blameless way is the one who will minister with me (Ps.101:6). David knew the importance of identifying the right ‘friends’ and ‘enemies’ – Every morning I will silence all the wicked of the land so as to cut off from the city of the Lord all those who do iniquity (Ps.101:8). In other words, David was vigilant to encourage only godly influences, so as to give his family the best chance of spiritual success. The blameless ministered to him, and the wicked were excluded.
