JESUS TEACHES A NEW WAY TO TREAT OTHERS.

Luke 6:27-42

Q.1. What approach to others did Jesus teach us to follow? In what way does this new direction drive us to the Saviour? – (Lk.6:27-36)

The fundamental way that Jesus gave for living in this world, is to – Treat others the same way you want them to treat you (Lk.6:31). The surprising inclusion in this command, is that we are also to treat our enemies this way, including those who hate us, curse us, and misuse us (Lk.6:27-28). We are to bless others, pray for others, give to the needy, and show mercy. Jesus expected His followers to be distinctly different in their dealings with others (Lk.6:29-30). He challenged His followers to do more than the rest of society (Lk.6:32-34). Jesus called us to – love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; WHY? … and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most-High; WHY? … for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men (Lk.6:35). The only one Who can love like that is God. My failure to apply these teachings, reinforces to me my need for His grace and forgiveness.

Q.2. How did Jesus expose our natural responses to others? What attitude should characterize His followers? – (Lk.6:37-42)

We have a natural inclination to find and magnify any faults in others. However, we tend to minimize the seriousness of our own failures (Lk.6:37). In knowing this, we should be extremely cautious if we need to make any judgments. The Lord wants us to remember that – by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return (Lk.6:38). We should be generous, as God is – GIVE, AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU. THEY WILL POUR INTO YOUR LAP A GOOD MEASURE – PRESSED DOWN, SHAKEN TOGETHER, AND RUNNING OVER (Lk.6:38). In many cultures they bargain this way to make a sale. We need to follow the example of our Lord and Master, since – A pupil is not above his teacher, but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher (Lk.6:40). Though God is perfect, He does display compassion to those who come short of His standard. We must do the same (Lk.6:41-42).
