JOB EXTOLLS THE VALUE OF WISDOM OVER TREASURE.

Job 28:1-28

Q.1. How do men distinguish themselves from the creatures of earth? To what degree will they go to find hidden treasures? – (Job 28:1-11 c.f. Mt.13:44)

Job observed that none of the birds of the air or beasts of the field bother about gold and precious stones (Job 28:7-8). He described how man feverishly searches in dangerous places for precious metals (Job 28:1-6). He goes to great lengths to extract wealth from the earth (Job 28:9-11). Jesus applied this passion to the greater value of pursuing the everlasting kingdom of Heaven (Mt.13:44).

Q.2. What value does man generally place on wisdom? Where is wisdom found? How does God display His wisdom? – (Job 28:12-28)

Job understood this higher quest for wisdom – But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? (Job 28:12). It is not found in the land of the living but with God. It is more valuable than all the treasures of the earth (Job 28:13-22). God is the source of all wisdom – God understands its way, and He knows its place (Job 28:23). By wisdom He directs and sets the boundary for all creation (Job 28:24-27). Since God is the source of wisdom – to man He said, `Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil that is understanding.’ (Job 28:28).
