Psalm 107:23-43
Q.1. How does the sea remind us to depend upon God? How should we respond to the might of the ocean? – (Ps.107:23-32)
Those who make a living from the sea, have often – seen the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep (Ps.107:24). When these people became desperate in the storm’ – 28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distresses. 29 He caused the storm to be still, so that the waves of the sea were hushed (Ps.107:28-29). The mighty ocean reminds us of how inadequate and vulnerable we are, and how quickly the storms of life can threaten us. Therefore, we should – give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness and for His wonders to the sons of men (Ps.107:31).
Q.2. How should the changing seasons impact our relationship with God? Why? – (Ps.107:33-38)
The Psalmist reminded us that God – … changes rivers into a wilderness and springs of water into a thirsty ground and – changes a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry land into springs of water (Ps.107:33 & 35). However, He also turns – A fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it (Ps.107:34). Yet God is good to all – … He blesses them and they multiply greatly (Ps.107:38). He uses the seasons to develop proven character, and to correct us when we stray (c.f. Rom.5:3-5; Heb.12:9-11).
Q.3. Why should we never take God’s goodness for granted? – (Ps.107:39-43)
The Shepherd’s crook is used to keep the sheep in line, and also to protect them from wolves. God is sovereign over all, from princes to paupers (Ps.107:40-41). He especially cares for the defenceless and oppressed, and – 41 sets the needy securely on high away from affliction and makes his families like a flock. 42 The upright see it and are glad; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth (Ps.107:41-42). The wise are always looking for and seeing the lovingkindness of the Lord, whatever the circumstances of life (Ps.107:43).
