OBSERVATIONS ABOUT ATTITUDES TO LIFE.

Proverbs 19:11-20

Q.1. What advice are we given about responses and reactions? – (Prov.19:11, 16, 19-20)

We need to become like Christ. This means we should be slow to become angry, and willing to overlook faults (see Prov.19:11 & 19 c.f. Jms.1:19-20). We should take special note of God’s principles and wise counsel, in order to enjoy a fulfilled life (see Prov.19:16 & 20).

Q.2. What insights did Solomon share about family life? – (Prov.19:13-15, 18, 20)

When children go astray, this can drain the time and resources of their parents (see Prov.19:13). Parents should discipline their children in their formative years, while there is still time. Failure to do this may shorten their lives (see Prov.19:18). We should develop a good work ethic, and then the inheritance from our parents is a bonus to be enjoyed (see Prov.19:14 & 20).

Q.3. What did Solomon say about the place and use of wealth? – (Prov.19:14-15, 17)

As the apostle Paul wrote – if anyone is not willing to work, then neither should he eat (2 Thes.3:10). A prudent wife contributes to the efficiency of the home (see Prov.19:14). Giving to (God’s work) and the needy will lead to God’s blessing [The tithe of our income sets up a pattern of budgeting that makes better use of our resources and invariably brings further blessing]. If we are generous towards the poor, this will result in blessing from the Lord (see Prov.19:14, 17).
