PURSUING RIGHTEOUSNESS AND AVOIDING EVIL.

Proverbs 12:20-28

Q.1. Why should we avoid lying and deceit? How is diligence rewarded? Why should we take care in what we share? – (Prov.12:20-24)

Solomon himself would have committed lying and deceit. Indeed no one can claim to have never done these things. What Solomon was talking about is a person’s normal practice, – He who speaks the truth tells what is right, but a false witness, deceit (Prov.12:17). He observed that – deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil … (Prov.12:20). He declared that – lying lips are an abomination to the Lord (Prov.12:22). How different are – counsellors of peace (who) have joy (Prov.12:20). Most importantly – those who deal faithfully are the delight of the Lord (Prov.12:22). Solomon advocated working hard because – the hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack hand will be put to forced labour (Prov.12:24). We also should apply God’s wisdom when deciding what information to share of with others. (c.f. (Prov.12:23).

Q.2. How can we help those who are anxious and confused? What blessing is extended to those who pursue righteousness? – (Prov.12:25-28)

Our way of living causes many to suffer anxiety. Solomon observed that a positive and constructive word can gladden the heart of the anxious, and that the righteous will be a guide to their neighbours (Prov.12:25- 26). He concluded – In the life of righteousness is life, and in its pathway, there is no death (Prov.12:28).
