QUALITIES OF A GOOD TREASURER RESPONSIBLE FOR GIFTS.

2 Corinthians 8:16-24

Q.1. Who was Titus to Paul? How was the companion of Titus described? Why was integrity a crucial quality for those caring for gifts? How did such stewardship assist the Corinthians to give? – (1 Cor.8:16-24)

Titus was just like Timothy to Paul – For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare … he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father (Phil.2:20 & 22 c.f. 2 Cor.8:23). Paul told the Corinthians that Titus had decided to follow through on Paul’s concerns, of his own accord (2 Cor.16-17). Consequently, Paul decided to send a highly respected brother along with him. This brother – whose fame in the things of the gospel has spread through all the churches (2 Cor.8:18). Paul did not name the person, but it could have been Apollos or Timothy (1 Cor.3:4 & 6; 4:17) who were both well accepted at Corinth. Paul wanted the church to have confidence in those carrying their offering to him for the advancement of the Gospel (2 Cor.8:19-20). Paul laid down the principle, that the financial dealings of Christian ministries should be above board – 20 taking precaution so that no one will discredit us in our administration of this generous gift; 21 for we have regard for what is honourable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men (2 Cor.8:20-21). Now that Paul had assured the Corinthians that their gifts would be administered with care and integrity, he pleaded – Therefore openly before the churches, show them the proof of your love and of our reason for boasting about you (2 Cor.12:24).
