REFLECTIONS FOR PILGRIMS REGARDING DAVID AND MOUNT ZION.

Psalm 132:1-18

Q.1. How did the pilgrims travelling to Jerusalem remember David? What was their prayer as they went up to worship? – (Ps.132:1-9)

The Bible paints a realistic picture of the exploits of David. Israel knew that the famous king had spent much of his earlier years being hunted by King Saul. He had been a warrior king who had worked tirelessly to build a temple for God. The pilgrims remembered his afflictions and single-mindedness – Until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” (Ps.132:5). As they journeyed to Jerusalem, they looked forward to worshipping God. They prayed that God’s servants would be spiritually prepared – Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let Your godly ones sing for joy (Ps.132:9). We should approach our worship in a similar spirit.

Q.2. What promises to David did the pilgrims cherish? How did they prepare their hearts for worship? What made Mount Zion such a special place of worship? – (Ps132:10-18)

David had been promised a lasting dynasty that would bless God’s people – 11 The Lord has sworn to David a truth from which He will not turn back: “Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. 12 “If your sons will keep My covenant and My testimony which I will teach them, their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever.” (Ps.132:11-12). Even more significant was God’s promise regarding Zion – 13 For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. 14 “This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it (Ps.132:13-14). As long as the nation kept God at their heart, they were guaranteed His blessing (Ps.132:15). The priesthood would also be a cause of great joy (Ps.132:16). This made Zion unique as a centre of blessing and influence.
