Ecclesiastes 10:1-20
Q.1. How influential is foolishness? What attitude can overcome those in authority? Does power last forever? What makes time a great equalizer? – (Ecc.10:1-7)
Solomon wrote Proverbs, in order to urge people to replace foolishness with wisdom, and to see life from God’s point of view. He observed that foolishness was more popular than wisdom and honour, and that it is often found in high places. It takes wisdom to know when to stand our ground against those in authority, and when to defer. He also saw slaves achieving power, and princes losing their influence. Over time the circumstances of people can change dramatically.
Q.2. Why should we maintain vigilance in life? What advice did Solomon give for leaders and servants? What truth about life should guide how we live? – (Ecc.10:8-20)
A wise person shows caution, when engaged in dangerous pursuits (Ecc.10:8-11. Solomon acknowledged the importance of – Words from the mouth of a wise man are gracious … (Ecc.10:12) and avoiding empty and endless chatter (Ecc.10:12-14). Leaders should set an example in self-control and productivity (Ecc.10:15-18). It is equally important to watch how we speak about our leaders. (Ecc.10:19-20). We should always make the most of our time, since – … no man knows what will happen, and who can tell him what will come after him? (Ecc.10:14 c.f. Eph.5:16; Col.4:5).
