SOLOMON SHARES LESSONS FOR GODLY LIVING.

Proverbs 13:9-16

Q.1. What did Solomon observe about light? How can we avoid strife? From where does security come? Are all hopes helpful? – (Prov.13:9-12)

We should take a longer, rather than a short-term view of life – The light of the righteous rejoices … whereas – the lamp of the wicked goes out (Prov.13:9). We should be slow to speak, and quick to listen to wise advice (Prov.13:10). Solomon advocated working diligently for increase, rather than just dreaming about vain pursuits … and scheming i.e. fraud (Prov.13:11). Hopes and desires that are realized lead to enthusiasm for life (Prov.13:12).

Q.2. How should we approach God’s Word? How good is wise advice and common sense? Why is it wise to think ahead? – (Prov.13:13-16)

We should cultivate an attitude of respect and awe of God’s Word and His commandments. This will bring reward. Despising God’s Word will not change the truth. Rather, there will be a price to pay for flouting it (Prov.13:13). Solomon praised wise advice and observed that – the teaching of the wise is a fountain of life … wisdom is with those who receive counsel (Prov.13:14 & 10). Wisdom can keep us from a troubled life and the snares of death (Prov.13:14-15). Embracing wisdom can keep us from looking foolish and can help us to consider the consequences before we act (Prov.13:16).
