Proverbs 19:1-10
Q.1. What are the characteristics of a fool? – (Prov.19:1, 3, 10)
A fool is crooked, and not straightforward in his speech (Prov.19:1). This brings frustration to anyone trying to relate to such a person. Moreover, a fool will always blame others for his ruin, and has the audacity to rage against the Lord (Prov.19:3). It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury … and he won’t for long, since ‘a fool and his money are soon parted’ (Prov.19:10).
Q.2. How does wisdom bring blessing to us? – (Prov.19:8, 20)
Solomon shared his insight into blessing – He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good (Prov.19:8). Wisdom is to see life from God’s point of view. All other viewpoints are inferior. To gain insight and knowledge from godly teaching and counsel, is essential for wise decision making (Prov.19:20).
Q.3. What insights did Solomon share about wealth? – (Prov.19:4, 6-7)
Solomon knew the benefits and dangers of wealth. He recognized the fragility of friendships gained through the hope of profiting from association with the wealthy (Prov.19:4 & 6). Jesus described this in His story of the prodigal son (c.f. Lk.15:11-32). It is especially so when the wealthy are generous in gift giving. They need to combine wisdom with their generosity.
