THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED.

Proverbs 10:1-10

Q.1. What impact can children have on their parents? How important is righteousness? What blessing was promised to the righteous? Will the wicked ultimately prosper? – (Prov.10:1-7)

Children can bring their parents anything from gladness to heartache – A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother (Prov.10:1). Much of this depends on how well parents keep to the precepts and warnings of the Scriptures. Righteousness is essential and has the power to – deliver from death (Prov.10:2). In fact, Solomon observed that – The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger (Prov.10:3 c.f. Ps.37:25). He added – Blessings are on the head of the righteous (Prov.10:6). Indeed – the memory of the righteous is blessed (Prov.10:7). By contrast, he declared that the wicked will not prosper for – ill-gotten gains do not prosper (Prov.10:2). The Lord’s hand is against them and – the name of the wicked will rot away. (Prov.10:7).

Q.2. Why should we work diligently? What difference will hard work make? What warnings did Solomon give about the use of the tongue? How important is integrity? – (Prov.10:4-10)

A lazy person will end up in poverty because he wastes his time, his talents, and his opportunities. Neglect leads to poverty – but the hand of the diligent makes rich (Prov.10:4). It is better to listen and receive instruction, than to babble on like a fool (Prov.10:8 & 10). James stated it this way – But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger (Jms.1:19). We should be true to our word, for – he who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out (Prov.10:9 c.f. Mt.5:37). Winking is a form of non-verbal communication. That is the sense of the statement, that – he who winks the eye causes trouble … and is plotting evil (Prov.10:10 c.f. Prov.16:30).
