Ezekiel 27:1-36
Q.1. How great was the influence of Tyre? What place was found for God in her lifestyle? Why would her demise be greeted with shock? – (Ezk.27:1-36)
Tyre was the great trading seaport of the ancient world and – … dwells at the entrance to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands (Ezk.27:3). She brought in the wealth of the nations and built a city that was perfect in beauty, compared with the other cities of earth (Ezk.28:12). The mention of Tarshish described the ocean bound ships that circumnavigated the world to Africa, Britain, India, Asia, and perhaps, the Americas – Tarshish was your customer because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth; with silver, iron, tin and lead they paid for your wares … the ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your merchandise. You were filled and were very glorious In the heart of the seas (Ezk.27:12 & 25). Ezekiel gave a comprehensive list of the trade done with all the surrounding nations (Ezk.27:12-24). However, this pride in its wealth and influence would all be destroyed – 35 All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled at you, and their kings are horribly afraid; They are troubled in countenance. 36The merchants among the people hiss at you; You have become terrified and you will cease to be forever (Ezk.27:35-36). It would leave others incredulous of her fall.
