Hebrews 4:12-16
Q.1. Why is the Word of God so important? How does God use it for His purposes? – (Heb.4:12-13)
Holy men wrote when they were moved by the Spirit of God (2 Pet.1:20-21). This same Holy Spirit has been appointed by God to bring sinners to repentance (Jn.16:7-11). The Scriptures are used by God has His instrument to expose the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Without the Holy Spirit’s ministry in relation to the Bible, it would be just a lifeless study book. We cannot escape the gaze of God. It is the Bible that brings that truth home to us, by bringing conviction, so that we might claim Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
Q.2. What is the present ministry of Jesus Christ to the saints? How should it encourage us to know that Jesus is in Heaven? – (Heb.4:14-16)
When Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, He sat down at the place of authority with the Father, as our representative High Priest in the presence of God. His work did not end at the Cross, or even the Resurrection. It continues unabated in Heaven. No one is better qualified to plead our case, since Jesus lived as a man, and experienced the temptations we face … yet without sin (Heb.4:15). That is why we can enter with boldness into the presence of God, knowing that our Advocate is both merciful and faithful. Similarly, for that reason He is able to sympathize with us.
