THE PSALMIST CALLS ON GOD TO DELIVER HIM FROM TROUBLE.

Psalm 119:153-160

Q.1. What circumstances was the Psalmist facing? What was the source of much of his trouble? How did he respond to trials? (119:153-157)

Just as there are times and seasons in nature, so it is with our Christian pilgrimage. The Psalmist was in the midst of severe trials and afflictions caused by the treachery of many persecutors and adversaries. He called on God to look upon His pain and to rescue him. Strangely, he asked God to plead his case. This was in recognition of God’s ability to change the opinions and prejudice of his enemies. How quickly the situation can change. He also asked the Lord to revive him through God’s Word.

Q.2. What was the Psalmist’s confidence in trouble? On what did he base this confidence? How did he view his foes? (Ps.119:156-160)

The Psalmist was rock solid in his commitment to keeping God’s commands, regardless of the circumstances. He trusted in the Lord’s mercy (which are great). He affirmed his absolute confidence in the truthfulness of the Word of God – The sum of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting (Ps.119:160). We also can always trust God and His Word.
