Psalm 119:121-128
Q.1. What gave the Psalmist confidence that the Lord would help him? – (Ps.119:121-124)
The Psalmist drew attention to two key elements that were the foundation of his confidence. We can be oppressed, and at times God may seem distant from us. However, the Psalmist could say – I have done justice and righteousness … (Ps.119:121). Having a clear conscience gives us confidence that we will not be abandoned. A far greater confidence comes from knowing the character of God. The Psalmist appealed – Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness (Ps.119:124). I am constantly grateful that the Lord does not deal with me according to my performance. He deals with me according to His lovingkindness, and that builds my confidence and love for Him.
Q.2. How did the Psalmist sustain his love for the Lord, and his hatred for evil? – (Ps.119:125-128)
The Psalmist pleaded for discernment and understanding. Many of God’s principles are considered brilliant, even by the opponents of the Christian faith. To this passion for truth, the Psalmist added a recognition of the preciousness of God’s Word. We cannot truly love God and His Truth and feel comfortable with lies and deception. He wrote – I hate every wrong way (Ps.119:128).
