THE PSALMIST’S PASSION FOR GOD IN THE MIDST OF FALSEHOOD.

Psalm 119:161-168

Q.1. How was the Psalmist anchored amid opposition? What was his attitude to the Law of God? – (Ps.119:161-165)

The Psalmist’s awe over the brilliance of God’s Law was clear – … 161 My heart stands in awe of Your words … 162 I rejoice at Your word, as one who finds great spoil. 163 … I love Your law. 164 Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous ordinances. 165 Those who love Your law have great peace … (Ps.119:161-165). By keeping it, he knew that he was pleasing to God. This gave him both a clear conscience, and a confidence that His God would protect him against all his foes.

Q.2. Where did the Psalmist keep his focus in order to give him confidence and peace beyond his circumstances? – (Ps.119:165-168)

The Psalmist did not just value the Word of God … it led him to intimacy with God – 166 I hope for Your salvation, O Lord, and do Your commandments … 168 I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies, for all my ways are before You (Ps.119:66 & 168). Nature reminds us of God’s awesomeness and intricate care. However, it is when we meditate on God’s Word that the Gospel unfolds and reveals the One Who is altogether faithful and true. Nature alone leaves us with many gaps in our understanding. It is the Word of God and His wise precepts that show us the provision that God has made for lost sinners. It delivers peace beyond our circumstances and all our failures.
