THE RIGHTEOUS GOD GIVES US THE RIGHT WORD.

Psalm 119:137-144

Q.1. What makes the Word of God right? How does this ensure that it will always apply, and will forever endure? (Ps.119:137-142)

Men accuse God of not making Himself plain. However, the Psalmist discovered what all who read His Word will also know – 137 Righteous are You, O Lord, and upright are Your judgments. 138 You have commanded Your testimonies in righteousness and exceeding faithfulness (Ps.119:137-138). People frequently do not tell the truth. By contrast, God always tells the truth because He is the Truth. Since all the commands and precepts in Scripture come from a righteous God, they can only be right. The only people who experience this are those committed to His mission to the world. These truths cannot be discovered by those who follow their own agendas. This was no problem for the Psalmist, who was committed to walk in God’s ways – Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is truth (Ps.119:142). God’s Word will always be true because God said so. His Word’s reality becomes more apparent, the longer we follow it.

Q.2. Does everyone share the convictions of the godly about God’s Word? Why did the Psalmist delight in God’s commands? (Ps.119:139-144)

The Psalmist was aware that he was on a constant collision course with those who shun God. He felt the derision of his opponents (Ps.119:139 & 141). This just made him more determined to follow the Lord’s direction and to value it most highly, since it was the source of his blessing – Your testimonies are righteous forever; Give me understanding that I may live (Ps.119:144).
