THE SON UNIQUELY REPRESENTS SINNERS AND SAINTS.

Hebrews 2:9-18

Q.1. Why was the Incarnation of the Son required? How high has the atoning sacrifice of Christ lifted up the believer? – (Heb.2:9-13)

Jesus had to become a man, in order to taste death in place of every person under the condemnation of God. That includes everyone (Rom.3:9-23). However, God turned sinners into saints. The atonement brought a complete reversal of man’s lostness. Now we are brothers and sisters in Christ and are children of God. The writer then gave a number of Scriptures that underscore the truth of our new position, as brethren and children of God. Now we belong to the Creator and Owner of everything. That is some elevation.

Q.2. What did Jesus accomplish for us through His death and glorification? How does Christ still represent us? – (Heb.2:14-18)

In partaking of flesh and blood like the rest of humanity, Jesus died our death. This He did that – 14 … He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives (Heb.2:14-15). From death, Jesus was reinstated to a place of highest honour. He suffered thus – 17 … so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted (Heb.2:17-18). Now He perfectly represents us before the holy Father. His heart is still for us.
