Proverbs 3:11-20
Q.1. What should be our attitude to God’s chastening? Why? What are the benefits of life’s experiences? How valuable is wisdom? – (Prov.3:11-15)
God has built His nature into our family relationships. Just as it is normal for a father to discipline his son in whom he delights, how much more does our heavenly Father care. We should respond positively to God’s chastening, because this actually proves that God loves us – 11 My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord or loathe His reproof, 12 For whom the Lord loves He reproves, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights (Prov.3:11-12 c.f. Heb.12:5-11). Solomon connected such divine discipline with gaining wisdom – How blessed is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding (Prov.3:13). Wisdom expresses itself in being Christlike. Wisdom is more valuable than any earthly wealth since – nothing compares with her (Prov.3:15).
Q.2. How is it possible that wisdom brings long life, respect, and even wealth? What did God’s wisdom produce? How great does that make God? – (Prov.3:16-20)
Wisdom is beneficial, because it helps us to avoid activities that endanger life. It also invariably brings prosperity (Prov.3:16-18 c.f. Prov.11:28; 13:8; 14:24; Jer.17:7-8). The learning to see life from God’s point of view is more to be treasured than any earthly treasure. This leads to a peaceful, real, and lasting life. Such wisdom was displayed by God Himself when establishing the earth and the heavens. Even the extreme climactic conditions are ordered under His wise hand. It is impossible for us to begin to fathom the wisdom of God. By creating the complexity of the universe and intricacies of all the creatures in just six days, God was and is revealed as the One Who is greater than the human mind can conceive. HE ALONE IS WORTHY OF ALL PRAISE!
