TRAIN UP A CHILD IN THE WAYS OF THE LORD.

Proverbs 22:1-9

Q.1. What were the writer’s observations about wealth and generosity? – (Prov.22:1-4, 7-9)

It is of much greater value to have a good name, rather than to have wealth. We also need to humbly fear the Lord, Who rewards His servants with riches, honour, and life. By contrast, to sow in sin means to reap vanity.  We need to accept that we are not all the same – God has actually ordained for people to be either rich or poor … or everything in between. Therefore – He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor (Prov.22:9). God also gave a warning that – the borrower becomes the lender’s slave (Prov.22:7). It is better to save and wait, then to borrow and live under pressure.

Q.2. What promise did God make for the parent who trains up a child in the way of the Lord? – (Prov.22:5-6 & 8)

Parents need to take the raising of their children seriously, in order to keep them from thorns and snares. We must create a climate in which a child can reach his/her full potential – Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it (Prov.22:6). God has given every child a unique personality, with various strengths and weaknesses. Training the child is the best insurance against a child turning from God. This must be understood in the context of God’s call, and His amazing grace.
