‘WATCH OVER YOUR HEART WITH ALL DILIGENCE’.

Proverbs 4:20-27

Q.1. Where should wisdom and instruction find a lodging place? How will they bless us? What kind of speech should we avoid? What is the blessing of walking in the truth? – (Prov.4:20-27)

We should study God’s Word, to show ourselves approved by God. We are not just to know the words of God, but also to – … keep them in the midst of your heart (Prov.4:21). Solomon knew the benefit of taking God’s truths to heart – For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body (Prov.4:22). We are to – Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life (Prov.4:23). The heart, with its affections, imaginations, reason, will, and conscience, directs our lives. We must be watchful to protect our hearts from the influences of Satan and the world. This is best achieved by meditating on, and then applying the truth of the Bible to our daily lives. Solomon also told his son to avoid deceitful and devious speech from his own mouth (Prov.4:24). This is made possible by walking on the straight and narrow path that leads to life, and by resisting the temptation to turn to evil (Prov.4:26-27 c.f. Mt.7:13-14).
